The Division of Critical Care Medicine at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals and the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco, are seeking outstanding faculty candidates to join our established group in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU). The PCICU at UCSF serves as the central hub of Northern California’s top-ranked Pediatric Heart Center, boasts a dedicated center for the care of neonates with congenital heart disease, and provides exceptional care to patients across the spectrum of acquired and congenital cardiac pathology. This includes active programs in pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary vein intervention, pediatric heart failure, ventricular-assist devices, and transplantation as well as a burgeoning adult congenital heart disease program.


Selected candidates will join a leading academic medical center and an established training program, contributing to the Department of Pediatrics’ mission of excellence in research, education, and patient care. As Pediatric Critical Care faculty, you will play a vital role in the Division, Department, and University and will have access to all the resources of the institution to pursue clinical and academic goals. Our group has expertise in multiple areas of academic excellence, and welcomes applicants with a passion for clinical science, quality/process improvement, medical education, or bench-top research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a faculty physician clinician during day and night shifts in the PCICU, supervising a multidisciplinary team of Cardiology Fellows, Critical Care Fellows, and APP’s.
  • Primary management of artificial life-sustaining devices such as ECMO and VAD.
  • Collaboration within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, including pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, nursing staff, and other members of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
  • Participation in educational conferences, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities as desired.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Medical degree and license
  • Board-certified or -eligible in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Pediatric Cardiology, or Neonatology with additional training in Cardiovascular Critical Care. This may be in the form of dual fellowship certification or an advanced training year.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A strong interest in a career in academic pediatrics, specifically pediatric critical care and/or pediatric cardiology.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage across diverse forums.
