The Heart Center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the primary pediatric teaching hospital for The Ohio State University, is seeking a full-time attending physician at any academic rank to join the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU).
About the CTICU
Nationwide Children’s Hospital maintains a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit with 20 beds and is currently undergoing physical expansion to 26 beds as part of sustained programmatic growth, supporting approximately 600 admissions annually, including both medical and surgical patients. The CTICU is staffed by a collaborative group of eleven academic cardiac intensivists from diverse training backgrounds, supported by dedicated advanced practice providers, providing 24/7 in-house attending coverage. This expansion reflects ongoing institutional investment in both clinical infrastructure and the long-term growth of the Heart Center’s cardiac critical care program.
Clinical Program Highlights
The Heart Center provides comprehensive pediatric and congenital cardiac services, including:
- Hybrid palliation and a comprehensive single ventricle program
- Pediatric and adult congenital thoracic organ transplantation (heart and lung)
- Advanced cardiac mechanical circulatory support
- Blood conservation strategies
- High-acuity perioperative and medical cardiac critical care
Annual clinical volumes include:
- Over 500 cardiothoracic surgical cases
- Over 700 cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures
- More than 23,000 outpatient cardiology visits
Training, Research, and Academic Opportunities
Nationwide Children’s Hospital supports pediatric and combined pediatric/adult cardiology fellowship programs. Faculty participate in multicenter clinical trials and national quality initiatives. The CTICU is closely integrated with the Center for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research, which includes multiple NIH-funded and externally supported research programs. Research, education, quality improvement, and leadership development opportunities are strongly supported and aligned with individual career goals.
Candidate Qualifications
- Completion of fellowship training in pediatric cardiology and/or pediatric critical care medicine with advanced cardiac intensive care experience
- Board certification or board eligibility in pediatric cardiology preferred
- Interest in academic medicine, including clinical care, education, research, quality initiatives and program development
