The LCH CVICU (pediatric cardiovascular intensive care unit) at Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital recently expanded from a 10-bed unit to now 20 beds. This high acuity unit is currently ranked #8 in the country for Best Children's Hospital for Cardiology and Heart Surgery by U.S. News and World Report in 2025, making this the third consecutive year to be ranked within the top 10 programs in the nation. The staffing ratio is usually 1:1 or 1:2 and we care for a wide range of ages, from neonate to 18 years of age. Patient population includes the following: pre-op and post-surgical repair of congenital heart defects; heart transplant; ventricular assist devices; acquired heart disease; ECMO; CRRT; etc. Patients are monitored very closely until stable enough to be transferred to the 8th floor (Progressive Care).

Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH) has taken the community to another level of service to provide care for the growing population of children in our region. At 259 beds, LCH is the largest children’s hospital between Atlanta and Washington DC. It serves high acuity patients as the flagship children’s hospital within the innovative Atrium Health and offers a full complement of over 125 pediatric subspecialists in over 30 different pediatric specialties. We have 4 pediatric hospitalist teams, a newly expanded 24 bed PICU and 20 bed Cardiac ICU, an 85-bed Level IV NICU, and an inpatient pediatric rehabilitation floor. Levine Children’s Hospital is also Charlotte’s only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. LCH has been named a Best Children’s Hospital by U.S. News & World Report for 18 consecutive years and is nationally ranked in 7 pediatric specialties. Additionally, Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center and Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital have earned Magnet re-designation from The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®. Magnet designated health care organizations showcase excellence in nursing practice and patient outcomes.

We are looking for a new leader for our Pediatric CVICU. Essential functions include:

- Continually demonstrates and supports a Professional Practice model that allows nurses to work in collaboration with interdisciplinary partners to achieve high quality patient outcomes.

- Ensures that unit operations and employees are in compliance with the Nursing Practice Act, regulatory agency standards, and policies and procedures.

- Functions as a team member to accomplish goals and objectives of the unit and the organization, upholding quality management, patient care, and departmental standards.

- Assumes responsibility in the recruitment and retention of qualified staff and to ensure appropriate orientation, education, credentialing and continuing professional development of personnel through mutual goal setting and performance evaluation.

- Delegates effectively by promoting shared governance, developing and nurturing research to positively affect clinical outcomes.

- Performs nursing care, assists with treatments, therapies, procedures, and administers medications as necessary.

- Provides and assesses effectiveness of patient and family education.

- Participates with performance improvement activities to improve quality of nursing care, promote patient outcomes and provide a cost effective environment for patient care.

- Assists in development of policies, procedures and standards reflective of evidence based practice.

 - Promotes shared accountability for professional practice.

- Allocates resources to meet the unit needs. Responsible for budgetary oversight, and along with staff involvement, accountable to the organization for maintaining a cost effective unit.
