Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant - Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care- Arkansas Childrens Hospital/ University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences

We are looking forward to recruiting an Advanced Pediatric Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant to work in our in-patient unit (cardiac ICU + cardiac Intermediate unit). The hire will work in the  Arkansas Children's Hospital Heart  Institute, where you'll be part of a dedicated team in a state-of-the-art 18-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and a 17-bed stepdown unit, both operational 24/7 with pediatric intensivists and cardiologists. Summary of Job Duties:
Works fourteen 12hr shifts/month includes holidays, minimal one weekend/month and some night shifts.
The APRN/PA is a skilled healthcare provider who has completed an educational program that provides specialized certification and is regulated by either the Arkansas State Board of Nursing or the Arkansas State Medical Board.  An APRN/PA manifests a high level of expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of actual and potential health problems of pediatric patients and their families.  An APRN/PA possesses an advanced knowledge level, skill, and competence in the provision of care to specific patient and family populations and serves across the care continuum as a clinical resource for patients, families, staff, and the community.
Qualifications:
APRN:
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program with at least a Master’s in Nursing.
  • National Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. May have a certification as a Pediatric Nurse practitioner in either acute or primary care.
PA:
  • Graduate from an accredited physician assistant program defined by the Arkansas State Medical Board.
  • Current Arkansas Physician Assistant license.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Responsibilities:
  • Maintains required audits for credentialing. 
  • Engages in appropriate continuing education programs, maintain mandatory competencies, medical center computer-based learning modules, and health monitoring services.
  • Participates in institutional initiatives and encourages the participation of others. 
  • Collaborates in policy and program development, implementation, and evaluation using best practices in delivering quality service.
  • Coordinates the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, and assuring that care is timely and appropriate.  
  • Actively engage in service line meetings and take an approach to health care that shapes policies, programs, facility design, and day-to-day interactions.
  • Provides healthcare services to patients which may include: comprehensive care during acute and chronic episodes of injury and illness, follow-up care during post-hospital clinic appointments, education and counseling of families, health promotion and prevention, and referral to other healthcare providers and community resources when appropriate.
  • Works autonomously, as well as, in collaboration with a variety of disciplines to diagnose and manage health care problems; will serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate. 
  • Communicates and shares complete and unbiased information, assuring their colleagues receive timely, complete, and accurate information in order make informed decisions.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
