Ochsner Children’s Hospital is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) for it’s growing pediatric CVICU.

About our pediatric CVICU and Congenital Heart Center:

  • Over 200 cardiac surgical cases performed each year
  • 12-bed CVICU, with over 300 CVICU admissions each year
  • CVICU clinical team supported by 3 APPs, with the goal to expand to 24/7 coverage
  • Only heart transplant and ventricular assist device program in the state of Louisiana
  • Complex Congenital Cardiac Catheterization program, with over 400 cases each year
  • Additional cardiac subspecialists available including electrophysiology, ACHD, and advanced imaging

In additional our CVICU, our facilities also include a 14-bed Pediatric ICU, a 67-bed Level IV Neonatal ICU, and a 44-bed pediatric Acute Care Unit. Our team is also supported by a 24/7 dedicated pediatric and neonatal transport team, facilitating critical care transports from across Louisiana and Gulf South.

To meet our growing needs, we have also begun construction on a new, state-of-the-art Children’s Hospital, with expected opening in early 2028.

Key responsibilities include

  • Working directly with a supervising physician to provide both pre- and postoperative care to surgical patients as well as care for complex medical patients with cardiac disease requiring ICU or step-down level care.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of infants, children, and young adults with congenital and acquired heart disease, and partner with nursing staff to implement patient-specific treatment plans.
  • Assist in the management of patients requiring advanced support including mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, ventricular assist devices) and continuous renal replacement therapy.
  • Opportunities to participate in education and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in a rotating coverage schedule, including 12-hour shifts with rotation of days, nights, weekends, and holidays
