You will get to discuss your QI ideas with and gain ongoing support from experienced quality improvement experts and your project can be guided from the idea/design phase all the way through publication. Participants will apply QI methodology while working through a case study to enhance learning. 

The course objectives are: 

  • Understand and apply the broad concepts of quality improvement science.
  • Develop SMART aims and an AIM statement.
  • Differentiate between QI and research methodology.
  • Understand the components of and develop a Key Driver Diagram (KDD).
  • Understand and demonstrate the steps of a PDSA cycle.
  • Understand random vs assignable variation (and why it matters), how to choose and define metrics, and apply the science of run charts to your metrics. 
  • Understand the value and pitfalls of process control (SPC).
  • Learn to write an abstract using the SQUIRE guidelines.
