Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist or Intensivist / Pediatric Cardiologist, Qatar
The Heart Center at Sidra Medicine, Doha, Qatar is seeking to appoint an additional pediatric cardiac intensivist to join the cardiac intensive care team. Applicants must be board certified (or international equivalent) in both pediatric critical care and pediatric cardiology or have a significant experience in pediatric cardiac intensive care following critical care or cardiology fellowship training. The successful applicant will work in a team of seven pediatric cardiac intensivists.
The post will be offered at Attending or Senior Attending level depending on experience.
Cardiology : Applicants with Pediatric Cardiology experience are encouraged to apply, as additional duties can be offered in the general pediatric/ congenital cardiology service for those who wish to continue practice in both areas.
The Heart Center at Sidra Medicine provides the full breadth of congenital heart surgeries and complex interventional procedures with the exception of cardiac transplantation. Sidra Medicine is a flagship new women’s and children’s facility opened for in-patients in 2018, and is the only center in the State of Qatar for children requiring cardiac surgical procedures and other tertiary and quaternary pediatric care. The national neonatal and pediatric ECMO service is run by the cardiac ICU team. A pediatric VAD program is under development.
The 22-bed pediatric intensive care unit at Sidra Medicine provides the comprehensive services of critical care for patients with congenital heart disease from infants to adults. The ICU is a shared facility with a parallel general pediatric intensive care team who care for the all non-cardiac patients. The critical care unit is supported by a multi-disciplinary team including nurse practitioners, hospital intensivists, 1:1 nursing, clinical pharmacists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists etc. All medical and surgical subspecialties are available to the team including interventional radiology.
The PCICU admits approximately 400 patients annually. ICU data are submitted to VPS and there is an proactive audit, quality and safety culture. We have an approved pediatric cardiac critical care fellowship and in addition welcome fellowship trainees from cardiology and pediatric critical care . Our intensivists and practitioners are also part of an active simulation program.
