The Heart Institute at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is seeking a Full-time Pediatric Cardiac ICU Advanced Practice Provider to join their devoted team. The position requires shift coverage to include a rotational schedule between days, nights, and weekend coverage to meet the needs of the unit and patient care requirements.
Our 18 bed Pediatric CICU is staffed by dedicated cardiac intensivists, advanced practice providers, nurse practitioner fellows, physician fellows, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacist, social worker, chaplain and nutritionist. The Heart Center is comprised of a dedicated, multidisciplinary team that works together to provide extraordinary care to all congenital and acquired cardiac disease patients.
Position Summary:
The pediatric APRN or PA-C, under the supervision of the physician, according to established practice guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards, provides inpatient management, consultations, and co-management of critically ill patients in the Cardiac ICU setting. Including intubation, ventilator management, and other procedures that may be required.
Clinical Essential Functions:
• Provide shift coverage as needed for high acuity pediatric cardiac ICU patients. Shifts may vary depending on census and level of acuity within the unit to provide 24/7 patient care.
• Collaboratively manage critically ill patients and round with the CICU Team, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, and CT Surgery.
• Provide family education in conjunction with CICU staff members.
• Ability to provide life-saving procedures. In addition, have the capability to perform or learn to perform to intubate, place central venous lines, arterial lines, and chest tubes.
• Assist CT Surgery Team with post-operative ICU care, including but not limited to incision and wound management, as well as removal of chest tubes and pacer wires.
• Participate in weekly Pediatric Cardiac Conference.
• Quality improvement projects to improve patient care and promote evidenced based practice.
• Provide Pediatric CICU Department education and be a constant resource on the unit.
• Preceptor for the Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program.
• Holidays, weekend, and night coverage will be required pending staffing needs and patient acuity
Education/Training
Graduate of an accredited Advanced Practice Provider program including Physician Assistant (PA-C) Studies or Masters Degree in Nursing (APRN). APRNs must have an Acute Care certification.
Preferred experience in pediatric cardiology, pediatric cardiac intensive care, pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric acute care setting

Licensure/Certification
Current, valid Florida APRN or PA-C license.
Certification by Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) for Acute Care Pediatric APRN.
Maintains NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants).
Maintains current PALS, ACLS and BLS.
