Clinical Nurse II - Cardio-Thoracic ICU - Rady Children's Hospital San Diego
At Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego, patients can range from premature infants as little as two pounds to teenagers weighing in at over 200. While some conditions and illnesses may mimic those of an adult, many factors beyond the obvious physiological differences can make treating children and adolescents challenging. Nurses are specialists who are changing the way critically small and critically ill patients receive care. Your commitment, knowledge, and skill set will be crucial to improving patient outcomes.
Rady Children's is the only children's hospital in San Diego and performs over 300 open heart surgeries a year. Our 30-bed unit, situated in space solely devoted to cardiac care, provides all levels of inpatient care for congenital or acquired heart disease, and can flex to 37 beds when needed. Patients remain in the CTICU from admission to discharge, providing continuity and stream-lined care. Our workstations are within steps of the patient rooms offering reassurance and comfort to both patients and families of being in visual contact with members of the healthcare team. Advanced care modalities include extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and a heart transplantation program that is thriving and demonstrates excellent outcomes.
The CTICU delivers excellent critical care management and utilizes state of the art technology, including mechanical circulatory support with ECMO and VADs. The NP team is a highly valued asset in the CTICU, providing coverage and working in collaboration with surgery, cardiology, PICU, and consultative service lines.
We offer an extensive training program for nurses with adult critical care experience or pediatric medical/surgical experience wishing to transition into the CTICU. For the first year, you will be working a rotating schedule consisting of 2 months on the day shift, followed by 2 months on the night shift. After your first year, you will transition to full-time night shifts. The shifts are 12-hour shifts.
