Charting the Course: Using Performance Rounds and Flight Plans to Improve Outcomes

QI Grand Rounds: The PCICS QI Committee is pleased to launch the 2026 webinar series dedicated to enhancing the quality and effectiveness of care for critically ill pediatric cardiac patients. This virtual platform will foster collaborative learning, discussion, and networking through an expert panel and moderated Q&A session. We hope to offer the opportunity for presenters and audience members to connect with one another and share protocols/processes. 

Objectives: 

  • Explain the rationale for implementing structured flight plans and performance rounds to improve patient safety, team communication, and clinical outcomes. 
  • Identify key components of an effective flight plan.
  • Discuss strategies for conducting performance rounds that foster accountability, continuous learning, and quality improvement in high-acuity pediatric cardiac care. 
  • Evaluate potential barriers and solutions to integrating these practices into daily CICU operations, including cultural, logistical, and resource considerations.
